Yes. LockedPDFs uses pdf-lib, a JavaScript library that runs entirely inside your browser tab. When you drop a PDF, it is read into your browser's memory — not sent to any server. Verify this yourself: open Chrome DevTools → Network tab → process a PDF → zero outbound requests carry your file.
Most PDF tools (iLovePDF, Smallpdf, Adobe) upload your files to their servers for processing. LockedPDFs processes everything inside your browser using pdf-lib — your files never leave your device. It's built specifically for professionals in India who handle sensitive financial and legal documents.
Yes — every tool is completely free. Just sign up with your email and start using all 8 PDF tools with no limits. No credit card required, no hidden paywalls.
Once the page loads (which requires internet to fetch fonts and the pdf-lib script), all PDF operations work offline. Disconnect Wi-Fi and continue merging, splitting, watermarking — everything still works. A fully installable PWA version is on the roadmap.
All current tools are free and will remain free. If we introduce premium features in the future, existing tools will stay accessible at no cost.
Honest answer: our compression removes structural redundancy and optimises object streams, typically saving 5–25%. Deep compression (resampling embedded images) requires server-side Ghostscript which would mean uploading your file. We're transparent about this tradeoff — privacy over compression ratio.
